Gaylea was my midwife for my middle child and she was nothing short of amazing. I switched from a regular OB to Gaylea around 23-26 weeks pregnant, in hopes of having a VBAC (HBAC), and the level of care she provided compared to the OB was astounding!
She is so kind, caring, informative and truly passionate about her clients. When I went into labor I had a very long and very hard labor. She was there every step of the way guiding me and encouraging me. When it was time for my baby to be born she navigated some scary complications swiftly, calmly and knowledgeably and I was able to have a successful HBAC! I am so grateful for her as a midwife and as a person! ~ Kimberly Brooks
Gaylea was my midwife for both my births and due to her extreme skill and unending dedication to her clients both my babies are alive and thriving today! She listened to my concerns throughout pregnancy and gave me so much autonomy while also making sure I understood both sides to the decisions I was having to make.
Not all births go without complications and both of mine had them but I was never scared or worried about the outcome because I trusted her with not just my life but also my babies and knew we were in the best of hands! So grateful I chose her for both my births.
I will also add as a two mom household the respect and care given to both of us was amazing. My wife always felt included and respected and equally cared for especially with the difficulties that my births presented. We were able to discuss many of our options with Gaylea for post-partum things including the possibility of inducing lactation for my wife and were given great resources. Gaylea is one of a kind in my opinion and her love for what she does shines through in her care for those she works with.
As a mother who had her babies “late in life” it has been a huge blessing to be able to have my peri-menopause be worked through with Gaylea now too. It’s been almost 6 years since my last baby but to have the one who helped you through pregnancy & childbirth walk with you through another major life event I find truly to be a blessing. So excited to see this being added to her amazing care of women and the options she has to give her clients. ~ Elizabeth Broadaway
I cannot say enough good about Sumner County Childbirth and the care Gaylea provides. She is everything you would hope for in a midwife: skilled, steady, compassionate, and fully dedicated to her clients’ wellbeing. I have had the unique privilege of knowing Gaylea both professionally and personally. As her RN birth assistant for several years, I witnessed firsthand how she approaches every birth with calm expertise, sound clinical judgment, and true respect for each family’s wishes.
She has also attended all five of my very different births, and in each one I felt genuinely seen, heard, and supported. Gaylea offers true patient centered care. She never pressures, never rushes, and always takes time to explain options so that families can make confident, informed decisions. When my baby unexpectedly flipped breech at 38 weeks, she held my hand through the entire process and helped me form a plan that felt safe and right for me. I will always be grateful for her.
Gaylea’s ability to blend wisdom, experience, and heartfelt compassion is rare. Whether the birth is straightforward or challenging, she remains a steady, reassuring presence. I trust her completely.

As a first time mother and woman of color, I knew I needed midwives who would prioritize my autonomy and help me to bring my daughter into this world safely. Choosing Roots for childbirth education, and having Gaylea as our midwife was the best decision I could’ve ever made. Gaylea’s devoted care for me in the midst of the pandemic, even as she faced an unimaginable loss, speaks volumes to her character and the kind of care you can expect at Roots. Their team supports every client in every way. In the end, I successfully birthed our daughter at our home with Gaylea and Dr. Melan by our side. I could not imagine my pregnancy or birth experience without their guidance, expertise and care. ~ Kasey P. Tucker
Working with Gaylea was one of the greatest best experiences of my pregnancy and postpartum journey. She made me feel heard, safe, and respected. She took the time to understand not just my medical history, but my hopes, fears, and goals as a mother. Every appointment felt personal — never rushed, never dismissive — just genuine care and compassion.
One of the areas where she completely changed my life was breastfeeding. After having a breast reduction years ago and dealing with multiple tongue ties, I struggled with low milk supply and a very difficult start. Many providers would have given up or brushed it off — but not Gaylea. She walked beside me every step of the way. We explored donor breastmilk, supplemental nursing systems, pumping schedules, and so many creative solutions. She encouraged me through every setback, celebrated every win, and reminded me that every drop and every attempt counted.
Because of her guidance, her patience, and her unwavering belief in me, my baby and I were able to breastfeed for four years. That experience profoundly shaped my motherhood, and I am forever grateful.
If you want a midwife who sees the whole person — body, mind, and heart — and who advocates for you as if you’re family, choose Gaylea. She is truly a gift. ~ Bridgett Jones
