After your baby is born, there are a number of routine procedures that may be offered in the hours and days that follow. These can include things like medications, screenings, and newborn assessments.
While many of these are considered standard, they are still choices, and you have the right to understand what is being offered, why it’s recommended, and what your options are.
Just like during labor, this is an opportunity to practice informed decision-making. Taking time ahead of birth to learn about common newborn procedures allows you to approach these moments with clarity rather than making decisions under pressure or fatigue.
Every family will weigh these decisions differently based on their values, preferences, and understanding of the risks and benefits.
